A Survey of the Evolution of DRAM through 2003: a study of low-latency DRAM currently in development
نویسنده
چکیده
Over the past ten years DRAM architects have struggled to keep up with the everincreasing clock rate of CPUs in order to deliver commensurate performance from the primary memory system. This rush to keep up with the system clock rate led architects down a path of optimizations that is beginning to get very thorny, namely optimizing based on bandwidth while ignoring latency. The specter of latency has now begun to loom on the very near horizon, promising to provide a greater slowdown than bandwidth will. Armed with this knowledge, what have architects done recently to decrease latency? Specifically, are there any low-latency DRAMs being researched, being tested or being delivered, and if so will any of them be fast as well as cost-effective enough to appear in desktops someday?

Influence of Sahour meal on exercise performance and physiological responses in well-trained Muslim runners during Ramadan
Introduction: The objective of this study was to examine the influence of sahour meal on exercise performance, and physiological responses to a 10Km Time-Trial (10KTT) at two different times of the day during Ramadan. Method: Three well-trained Muslim runners participated (age, 25±0.8years; maximal oxygen uptake, 54.87±3.45 ml.kg-1.min-1; body weight, 52.4±1.99 kg; height, 162.7±3.55 cm). Subj...
متن کاملDynamic Random Access Memory: A Survey
The increasing gap between processor speed and main memory latency has accelerated the development of various innovative architectures from dynamic random access memory(DRAM) vendors. We note that recent DRAM innovations have taken place along three dimensions: reduce access latency, develop new interfaces to achieve higher bandwidth, and add simple logic to the DRAM core for application specii...
متن کاملReducing DRAM Latency at Low Cost by Exploiting Heterogeneity
In modern systems, DRAM-based main memory is significantly slower than the processor. Consequently, processors spend a long time waiting to access data from main memory, making the long main memory access latency one of the most critical bottlenecks to achieving high system performance. Unfortunately, the latency of DRAM has remained almost constant in the past decade. This is mainly because DR...
متن کاملTiered-Latency DRAM (TL-DRAM)
This paper summarizes the idea of Tiered-Latency DRAM, which was published in HPCA 2013 [37]. The key goal of TL-DRAM is to provide low DRAM latency at low cost, a critical problem in modern memory systems [55]. To this end, TL-DRAM introduces heterogeneity into the design of a DRAM subarray by segmenting the bitlines, thereby creating a low-latency, low-energy, low-capacity portion in the suba...
متن کاملUnderstanding and Improving the Latency of DRAM-Based Memory Systems
Over the past two decades, the storage capacity and access bandwidth of main memory have improved tremendously, by 128x and 20x, respectively. These improvements are mainly due to the continuous technology scaling of DRAM (dynamic random-access memory), which has been used as the physical substrate for main memory. In stark contrast with capacity and bandwidth, DRAM latency has remained almost ...
